Emotion Regulation as Predictor of Academic Performance in University Students

The current study intended to examine the association between emotion regulation (i.e., cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) academic performance in university students. In this correlational study, a sample of 300 (men=119; women=181) students (BS MS programs) age range 18-29 years (M=21.45; SD=2.14) was selected randomly from public sector Faisalabad city, Pakistan. Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Gross & John, 2003) used assess whereas percentages obtained marks last semester/degree program served as measure participants. results depicted significant correlation indicating positive while, negative suppression Moreover, were found be predictors performance. Besides implications highlighting role relevant policymakers, authorities, students’ counselors, mental health professionals, suggestions for future studies are discussed based on findings.
